Paperman Uses Exotel to Aid Trash Funding

Paperman is an organization that is set-up to promote recycling at the individual or company level. They work closely with scrap dealers, also known as Kabbadiwallahs’, in the locality who then go and pick up waste from citizens in the form of plastic, glass, metal and paper. The individual can either sell their trash or choose to donate it to an NGO of their choice. This concept is called ‘Trash Funding’. Similar to cash/crowdfunding, ‘trash funding’ is a way to obtain funds for an NGO from materials that would otherwise have gone for a waste. 80% of the people who use paperman for their trash have now chosen to donate their trash to these NGOs’.

Use Cases employed by Paperman

Intro

About 5 years ago Mathew saw tremendous potential in the way our waste, in India, was being managed. Problem was, this waste wasn’t being put to good use. He realized that every year, India produces more than 42 million tons of waste. This waste is worth at least $. 20,000 crores. Of Course, this got Mathew thinking. If he could sell this waste and give the proceeds to a worthy cause, wouldn’t it have a great impact? If so, how much of an impact could it have?

This is what led to the birth of Paperman. Paperman works with NGOs’ across 10 different fields, ranging from women empowerment to animal welfare. With Paperman, over 35 NGOs’ such as Gold Heart Foundation have been able to raise funds to carry out the brilliant work they do. Today, Paperman has helped NGOs’ raise over $. 15 lakhs through their ‘Trash Funding’ process.

Recycling and waste management in India are still in their nascent stage. With the increase in the amount of waste we are dumping in landfills, there is an ever-increasing need to manage and recycle this waste. If each household, company, school and institution decided to recycle or manage this waste in one way or another, imagine how much we could lessen the impact they have on our environment.

How the Kabbadiwallahs benefit

One of Mathew’s biggest agendas in this endeavour is to transition these Kabbadiwallah’s into full-fledged waste management entrepreneurs. With the growing desire of today’s people to constantly have organized systems, Mathew wants to create an organized system for Kabbadiwallah’s that can give their customers better experience. He wants to help grow their business strategically and in the process, he hopes to regain the lost dignity of Kabbadiwallah’s in society.

How Exotel Helps Paperman

The whole idea behind Paperman is to connect households/industries to the Kabbadiwallahs’. To do this, Paperman needed a solution that would help them connect with their customers, keep track and manage calls even when customers call after office hours.

“Exotel gave us a good time period to really try and understand the product”, says Mathew. After due deliberation, Mathew decided to use Exotel. “We use Exotel for customers who are calling in”, says Matthew. Exotel has helped Paperman connect with their customers, keep track and manage calls even when customers call after office hours. It has now become easier for Matthew and his team to reach out to customers.

Exotel has been helping Paperman in creating greater customer experience through keeping track of calls. It allows Paperman’s employees to call back the missed calls and handle customer queries more efficiently. It is, in fact, a lot easier for Paperman now than the previous method of handling calls manually. Paperman now has over 35 NGOs’ on its platform and has raised over 15 lakhs for them. It hopes to scale using Exotel in the near future.

‘’Exotel is very reliable.Their service has been very good’’, says Mathew. In the future, Paperman wants to implement a customer privacy solution that will help Kabbadiwallah’s contact to their customers without actually knowing their phone number. They want to use a click to call solution that will help make this process easy and safe. “We definitely think Exotel can help us scale since it’s helping us enhance our customer experience”, says Mathew.

The Future of Paperman

“The next stage for Paperman is to go national within the next 6 months”, says Mathew. They hope to scale their operations, manpower and to build a greater experience for people to connect with recycling their trash.

The larger mission of Paperman is to create better product cycles. To have information about waste disposal – how and where to dump the waste – is crucial so that every recyclable product out there is recycled. Paperman only hopes to be a part of this revolution.

Exotel’s service is wonderful. They are very reliable & we definitely think Exotel can help us scale since it’s helping us enhance our customer experience.
