Taaqademy is a music school that teaches the guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and vocals across the widest variety of genres and styles. What they are truly after though is an inspiration. They aim to deliver a creative experience that is addictive, uplifting – and just plain great old fun.

Intro

If you’ve been in Bangalore for a while and rock music is your jam, you’ve undoubtedly heard of Thermal and a Quarter. Thermal and a Quarter (TAAQ) is one of India’s pioneering rock bands that has been together, playing and composing music, for 20 years. Their music doesn’t just entail elements of rock but also a smack of blues, funk, jazz, prog, and even a pinch of soul.

TAAQ (Thermal and a Quarter) wanted to give Indian Musicians something they didn’t have while starting out themselves. So they decided to bring their talents together and set up a music academy called Taaqademy. Why Taaqademy? Because it’s musical! You’d be surprised to know that Taaqademy can be pronounced in many ways, for example, TA-KA-DHI-MI, which is entirely musical!

Exotel for Call and SMS Support

Problem
Taaqademy started out small. Of course, back then, it was easy to cross check manually with a hand-full of students about whether or not they’d be attending class. As their numbers grew from 50 to 100 to 150, they realized that managing the schedule and administration manually was close to impossible, especially since all their music sessions are on a one-on-one basis.
After two years of manually handling schedules, Rajeev and his partners decided it was time to find a solution.

Solution

Taaqademy began using Exotel for bulk SMS, call recordings and even customised their call flows. Their entire student communication now happens through Exotel’s platform. The communication process is powered through a simple missed call. Students that have a class scheduled get a text message with two numbers in it, one confirming their attendance and other to say they won’t be able to make it.

Class confirmation:

A. Students give a missed call to the relevant number
B. If they pick “going”, they get an SMS from Taaqademy confirming the time and date of their class
C. If they pick “not going”, they get an SMS confirming that the class stands canceled.

Impact

The music school is now better informed about attendance at all times. Exotel’s services bridged the communication gap between the teacher and the student. “Using Exotel has been a friendly, fun and flexible experience for us. Our business has grown 3 times, and it would have been impossible to handle this efficiently without Exotel”, says Rajeev.
